7 квітня 2018 року минає 109-а річниця від дня народження гончаря Гаврила Ничипоровича Пошивайла – одного з найбільш відомих творців української народної кераміки другої половини ХХ століття, одного з найсамобутніших представників опішнянської школи художньої кераміки, заслуженого майстра народної творчості України.
Хочеться пригадати одну з найяскравіших сторінок творчого життєпису Маестро.
1964 року поблизу Диканьки відомий італійський кінорежисер Джузеппе де Сантіс знімав італійсько-радянську історичну драму «Вони йшли на схід». У перерві між зйомками група італійських акторів приїхала в Опішне в завод «Художній керамік». Гостей радо зустріли, показали виробництво, повели в музейну кімнату зразків кераміки. Іноземці були в захваті від побаченого. Їхню увагу привернули роботи Гаврила Пошивайла, виникло бажання побачити майстра. Він вийшов у чому був за гончарним кругом: на голові старенька кепка, по самі лікті вимазані глиною, жилаві руки. Гості обступили гончаря, стали вигукувати: «Браво маестро!», тиснули йому руки й намагалися підкидати його вверх. Гаврило Ничипорович ніяково заперечував: «Та в мене ж руки в глині…» – «У вас золоті руки, маестро! Вашим рукам немає ціни!». Відтоді гончаря Гаврила Пошивайла й стали називати Маестро.
