славетного опішненського гончаря, заслуженого майстра народної творчості України, члена Національної спілки художників України й Національної спілки майстрів народного мистецтва України, лауреата Всеукраїнської літературно-мистецької премії імені Івана Нечуя-Левицького.
Народився він в Опішному, що в Полтавщині, в родині гончаря Гаврила Ничипоровича та гончарки-малювальниці Явдохи Данилівни Пошивайлів. Був старшим з-поміж трьох синів. Саме він і продовжив споконвічну справу свого роду – гончарство, яке стало його життєвим покликанням і якому він присвятив усе своє життя…
Віддав понад тридцять років роботі гончарем у заводі «Художній керамік», не полишав творити й вдома. Виготовляв надзвичайно широкий асортимент традиційного посуду: горщики, глечики, тиквасті глечики, тикви, ринки, миски, барила, зливушники. Значну частину його творчого доробку становить декоративна зоо- та антропоморфна скульптура, сюжетні композиції, що відображають побут українців. Він був неперевершеним майстром дитячої іграшки. Миколу Пошивайла справедливо можна назвати найкращим мисковим гончарем: його миски, оздоблені фляндрівкою й зображеннями риб чи півнів, є візитівкою Опішного.
І на схилі літ не порушував Майстер свого зв’язку з глиною – майже до останніх днів свого життя проводив майстер-класи для відвідувачів Національного музею-заповідника українського гончарства в Опішному, дарував незабутню радість кожному, хто брав з рук Майстра звичайний шматочок глини, а отримував свій «шедевр»!
Він жив, творив, мріяв, вірив, досяг… Не кожен залишає по собі слід. Та Микола Гаврилович зостався в серцях людей, які його знали. Схиляємося в поклоні перед світлою пам’яттю Майстра…
