У зооморфній глиняній пластиці збережено давні образи народної скульптури – баран, бик, лев, козел, птах. Функціональне призначення таких виробів – об’єм для напоїв: горілки, наливки, вина. Барани й леви інколи використовували як свічники. На сьогодні зооморфний посуд повністю втратив своє практичне значення й перетворився на декоративну скульптуру, що використовується для оздоблення інтер’єру.
«В Опішному індивідуальні «почерки» майстрів яскраво проявляються саме в зооморфній пластиці», – зазначає дослідниця опішненського гончарства, кандидат мистецтвознавства Олена Клименко.
В експозиції Меморіального музею-садиби родини Пошивайлів представлено зооморфну пластику Миколи Пошивайла, яка вражає складною технікою виготовлення. Композиційний принцип будови незмінний: тварина стоїть на 4-х конусоподібних ногах, тулуб пустотілий, має кулясту або видовжену форму, плавно звужуючись доверху, переходить у вузьку шию. Голова розташована прямо або відведена вбік, паща відкрита (для виливання рідини). Між рогами або вухами міститься отвір з покришкою. До тулуба примазано хвіст-ручку. Мистець знаходить цікаве й оригінальне рішення декорування зооморфного посуду: наліплення з глини «качалочками», «кульками», продавлювання через сито або мішковину (імітація вовни), пальцеві вдавлення, ритування, відтиски штампами та підручними засобами (трубкою, виделкою, кульковою ручкою), а також використання поливи коричневого, зеленого кольору. Особливу увагу відвідувачів привертає посуд «Півень», «Індик», адже побачити такий можна рідко.
Скульптурний зооморфний посуд у вигляді баранів, козлів, левів, півнів символізує сімейний достаток, багатство і благополуччя. Він – окраса найвишуканіших колекцій!
